I have had this camera for 8 months. I read the instruction manual and educated myself on this camera before using it. In the first month of owning it it went in to Nikon to be serviced because the "wonderful" touch screen kept locking up & without the touch screen working properly, you have no camera to use! Servicing the camera was a pain and Nikon customer service was not very helpful, Nikon had the camera for 2 months out of the 8 months I have owned it. Once I got it back, it seems the picture quality is even worse than before it went in. Nikon cannot answer why this is happening. I have a crappy camera and I'm out a good chunk of money for it :(

I have to be perfectly frank, the picture quality of this Nikon s60 camera sucks. Pictures are blurred majority of the time, the shutter time is a lot slower than the manufacturer states. I am so frustrated with this camera and all the problems I have had, so my best advice to you is purchase anything but the Nikon. Do your home work, read the reviews and make your best decision on what will work best for you. If you want to deal with blurred pictures consistently, slow shutter time, a touch screen that works when it wants to and poor customer service this is the camera for you.

Within 15 minutes of playing with this camera for the first time, I was ready to send it back. I'm not a professional, but I know a bad picture when I take one. After messing around with ISO settings, white balance, scenes, etc... the pictures still looked grainy. I primarily take indoor photos and the camera can't cut it.



It is kind of cute; it's a bit bulky feeling for a slim digital camera and not heavy enough in my opinion. The pink color is prettier on the computer... lol it's uglier in person. Turns on and off quickly; takes about 3-5 seconds to take a picture.



I absolutely HATE the touch screen and I'll never get a touch screen camera again !! The stylus is too tiny for my hands and I'm not crazy about having finger smudges all over the place.



I also have sadly realized that buying a camera over the computer unless you are absolutely positive it's the one you want IS A VERY BAD IDEA !! If you end up not liking the camera and want to send it back, you lose some of your hard earned money because of restocking.

Make sure you read the last line of the description because you have 10 days from the purchase of the camera to return warranty to Nikon! I received a camera as a gift and bought the warranty thinking the warranty started from the purchase date on the receipt. When I received the warranty, it stated that I had 10 days from camera purchase date to return the warranty for it to be effective. Only buy this when you buy a new camera at the same time.

I normally don't go for the extended warranties or service contracts but for the price it is cheap insurance. I have not used it but logic would indicate that an extended warranty offered by a reputable original equipment manufacturer would be superior to any third-party offering. I received the certificate in the mail within a few days of making the purchase and registered it on line with Nikon without issue.

Due to the convenience of deleting unwanted photos and inexpensive media storage, we take a lot more photos than the film era. Today's digital camera puts a lot of stress and loading on the battery, hence the battery grip becomes an essential accessory to most of us. Jenis battery grip uses the same build material as the original manufacture on all its product lines, to ensure a long time trouble free operation with your beloved digital SLR camera. The build quality and ergonomic not only matches the original equipment, there are some added functions on the higher end products that are designed with the professionals in mind. The extra features are not available either from the original equipment or the other battery grip on the market. The S model (Standard) provides the same function/capability as the original equipment. It can take up to two Li-ion battery or 6 to 8 AA batteries (depending on the model) to provide extra power reserved for longer shooting time. Depending on the camera design, some can also increase the continue shooting speed. There is an extra vertical shutter button to provide easy operation when shooting in portrait/vertical position. The control wheel provides the same functions as the original control wheel with easy access when operating in vertical position. The P model (Professional) has all the features in the S model but with some advanced essential functions. There is a clock which not only display time, but also serves as a self-timer or long exposure shutter control that can provide up to 99hr 59min 59sec delay time/B shutter. The SD model (Super Dual Storage) has all the features the P model has except the remote capability, but adds two extra high speed CF slots for people who like to take a lot of photos on a trip. A larger B&W LCD screen is provided to display some of the important shooting information. The grip also does some basic file operation. A high speed USB2.0 connection is also provided.

 "Best of Class Grip for a Body that Wasn't Designed to Use One" 2010-01-08

If you use your D40/40x/60 with large lenses, on long-all day shoots, or with gloves in cold weather, then you may find a battery grip very helpful in adding system stability. I shoot my D60 with a 70-200 f/2.8 tele, which I find difficult to balance on the D60's tiny body without more handle and heft. Since Nikon didn't design the D40/40x/60 with a battery grip in mind, we're left to choose among various third party options which are all of the same design, from the same wholesale manufacturer, and offer the same strengths and weaknesses. Of these, only the Jenis model appears to include additional time / intervalometer features. I chose it for that reason.





Strengths:



* well-sized, contoured, and, with batteries, weighted to provide the extra stability D40/40x/60 shooters may need;



* useful intervalometer and timer feature;



* additional shooting time with second battery--not really that big of an advantage, given that you can just carry a second battery around in your bag; but the additional battery does provide further ballast.





Weaknesses:



* construction quality isn't quite on-par with the camera body itself, even if the shape and contours do match;



* the intervalometer triggers only 99 frames;



* the intervalometer, stopwatch, and simple clock-setting are maddeningly complex and counterintuitive to set and use;



* the vertical shutter release, which fires via the body's infa-red remote trigger, is a kludgy solution. It works, but it doesn't allow for the main shutter's half-depressed focus / exposure lock; you also need to drill through the body's menus to enable remote shutter release before using it. (And, as other reviewers have noted, you need to drill the menus again to engage the main shutter release before switching back to horizontal use.) This problem is mostly Nikon's fault for not designing the D40/40x/60 with a real vertical shutter interface, so the grip's solution is the best possible workaround for the body.





Honestly, if you plan to shoot vertically and/or with huge telezooms most of the time, this grip's compromises around Nikon limitations really suggest that D40/40x/60 probably isn't the body for you--consider moving up to a D90 or have a look at Canon's EOS Rebels or Pentax's "K" series DSLRs, which can be extended with genuine OEM grips. But if you do plan on occasional vertical or pro telezoom shooting with your D40/40x/60, then this grip is your current best-in-class solution for improved system stability.

I bought this grip for added battery capacity and interval function. I like the fact one can use AA batteries instead of the nikon packs. Fit and finish almost matches the D40 but the texture is a little off and the unit is a bit on the glossy side. Build quality seems very solid and I was surprised how well the IR led pops in and out (too bad it cannot be seen by the camera receiver). What I really don't care for are the instructions. OMG it is like they were translated to english using an online translator. Instructions aside, the biggest problem with this grip is the verticle trigger. The grip uses an IR led to control shutter actuations (even in interval control mode) so the camera must be put into remote mode. So forget using horizontal and verticle triggering at the same time. When I first tried the verticle trigger it didn't work until I realised the IR led was not in line of sight with the IR receiver on the camera. Seems like someone did not do their homework engineering this thing! It works if you use your index finger to reflect the signal while pressing the trigger. I added a piece of foil around the grip's led and it seems to do the trick. It is because of this flaw I ranked the grip as low as possible. Like I said, I bought this grip for the capacity and the interval function which works (provided you get the camera IR receiver to see the grips led). It is definitely not worth the original price which is why I am glad I bought it on sale. IMO there are better grips out there. As for the timer function it can only take up to 99 pics so look somewhere else if you need a more capable intervalometer.

PROS: Yay, I can now use two Nikon camera batteries at once! Grip is fairly well constructed and easy to hold.



CONS: If only the clock functions on the grip were easier to use! The manual is somewhat badly translated (from Chinese, I think) and using the exposure options are not very clear at all.



THOUGHTS: I should have saved money and ordered the non-pro version. It would have been enough grip for me. I haven't gotten the extra 'vertical release' button to work, but I'm sure it will prove useful.

all in all lthis grip is pretty descent. a bit pricey but from the photos it looked like it would match pretty close to my d-60 and it did. it's a pretty good quality but the buttons for some of the features are very small and difficult to press. the instructions are pretty bad. maybe it's just me. things don't sink in too easy at times when having to read instructions! but they definitely lack. i haven't easily figured out all the features yet, but some seem to be something that could be helpful in the future. i wish there was a way to see all of the grips in person to compare but i gave jenis a try. having the extra battery power is very helpful and i like the extra size and grip to the camera. i don't like having to go in and switch settings to use the grip (infared signal pops out from front) but getting used to it all. if anything i got a qaulity made grip, double the battery power and a clock!

I have had this camera for about a year and have taken more than 3000 shots with it. The only thing that I have trouble with is when useing for close up work it does not always want to focus, but if you zoom out then back in you can usually get it to focus on what you want. The file sizes are large enough that you can crop and still keep it at a large enough size to get nice sized prints (4x6, 5x9, never tried getting 8x10's). Awesome for those that enjoy taking photos, may not satisfy those that are looking to sell. I have never been disappointed with image quality. I bought a Canon Rebel XSI (SLR) to replace it but when I used it I was VERY disappointed in what I got and went back to my Nikon.

I'm definitely a novice. There's a lot I need to learn in order to be able to take better photos, but this camera is easy to use. I can take pretty good pictures with it...just pointing and shooting. I haven't learned a lot about the settings yet, but I'm sure that when I do, my photos will be even better! So far, I have captured some really great photos of my kids and of the mountain scenery here where I live! The camera is fun to use, and I figure I will just keep experimenting with it to see what works for me! I cannot believe Nikon has discontinued this camera! The Nikon Coolpix P80 is easily portable. I carry it in a large padded camera bag that will hold other accessories and other "non-camera" things that I need to carry with me. It could easily be carried in a much smaller bag with all the things that you need just for the camera...extra batteries, extra memory cards, etc. It's very light weight and easy to use. It's the kind of camera that makes a novice want to learn more about taking really good photos!

This camera is the best camera that I have ever had. Yes, there probably are better cameras, but I have never experienced them and this camera works just the way I need it to. This lightweight camera has amazing features and takes the best pictures. My favorite feature on the camera is the rapid action shot. On the dial wheel, you can find it by locating the picture of a runner running. That feature is really good when you need to take pictures of children running and playing around or, my favorite, when you take fireworks. I have gotten some really good shots of fireworks at just the right moment. Shots that would not have been possible if I have not had this shot. All in all, I definitely recommend that you get this camera for all of your photography needs. This lightweight, attractive, reasonably cheap camera is the perfect camera for you!
